A resident who had been away from his home for two days told police he returned to his Oxford home to find a new hasp lock had been broken on a rear door while he was away and four grayish-brown piggy banks full of change had been stolen from under his bed, according to a police report.

The report was made July 15 at a Vereker Drive address.

The victim said there was approximately $500 in change in each of the four piggy banks, change he had been saving for years and included many silver dollars.

He said he was visiting a friend in Hamilton from July 12 to 14. The coins were the only items missing in the burglary, he said.

He named a suspect for police saying this other person was one of only a few people who knew of the coins and had recently been kicked out of the house following a drug raid there. He said he had had enough of the uncharged suspect’s problems and he had not seen her since sometime in June.

He said a friend had seen the uncharged suspect go into the Oxford Spirits liquor store several times over the weekend and buy liquor with large amounts of change.

Investigation is continuing.
