New healthy living series kicks off

Wellness events will be held every Thursday in April.

HAMILTON— The Lindenwald Civic Association has launched a new Healthy Living Series that runs every Thursday this month.

All the events will take place at the Heaven Sent Banquet Hall on 2223 Pleasant Ave. in Hamilton. Admission is free, but registration is requested by calling (513) 328-1819.

The series got its start when Alfred Hall, an expert on square foot gardening, was dining at Heaven Sent and got to talking with owner Debbie Doerflein about eating healthy. This evolved into the Healthy Living Series at Heaven Sent.

All event times are 6 to 8 p.m. The schedule runs as follows:

• today, April 1: Introduction to Herbs by Alyson Sizemore, certified herbalist. Exercise and diet by Tom Capobianco of Tailored Fitness. Massage, healing touch and Reiki, a Japanese stress reduction technique by Nancy Morrison of Lighthouse Massage.

•April 8: At-home exercise program by Chris Settle of Miami University Hamilton. Lifestyle changes to maximize well-being by Gerald Jacobson of Road to Health, Fitness through Dance by Francesca Anching Trego of Spirit of Pacific Islands.

• April 15: Yoga by Tom Capobianco of Tailored Fitness. Circulation, Assimulation, relaxation and elimination by Betty Bow Stiver. and Hamilton park programs by Bob Harris of the Hamilton Parks Department.

• April 22: Urban Gardening by Alfred Hall of Terrapin Farm. Natural Hormone Replacement by Dr. Bruce Worrell of the Center for Optimal Vitality.

• April 29: Vendor night exhibits with various local wellness vendors.

Hall wants the series to provide people with “no cost or lowest-cost ways they can improve their overall mental physical and spiritual well-being.”

Doerflein, who has tried hormone therapy, said, “I’m 56 and I’ve had the business for 10 years. I don’t have time to get old or tired. If you don’t take care of yourself, you’re going to fall apart and not be good for anything.”
