With live music at a standstill, and no events happening, Lifeboat Digital Media looked into their archives to create a concert series called, “Cincy Save The Music.” The goal of it is to stream concerts to new audiences via Facebook Live. “Windfest! 2018” was noted as one of the “finest productions” in Lifeboat Digital Media’s 22-year history, according to the event’s Facebook page.
Danny Maddox Nichols, director of The Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band, said after talking with Lifeboat Digital Media and the musical directors of the other groups, they reached an agreement to stream the concert live as a free, public service, and if anyone would like to donate to the groups, they can make a charitable donation.
“It really is a stellar concert featuring each of the three groups,” Nichols said. “I would also like to mention this is the first time that any bands in the area had played on that stage since Music Hall was completely renovated. So, this was the first year Music Hall was open after the renovation, and it was very exciting to play on that stage.”
Each of the groups will play four to five pieces of music during the concert.
“Many of the groups right now, especially the professional ones, are really working hard behind the scenes to do something to uplift people during these tough times,” Nichols said. “This gives people something to look forward to.”
During the 2018 “Windfest!” concert at Music Hall, the Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band (SOSB) was under the direction of Chris Brandenburg, conductor, and Nichols served as the associate conductor.
The Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band will open the concert and each group will perform about 30-35 minutes of music.
Among other highlights, SOSB’s Earl Jones will sing a solo “Nessun Dorma” arranged by Jay Bocook. The band will also perform Gary Gilroy’s “Ava Marie Para Nossa Mae.”
The Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band is made up of about 95 all-volunteer musicians, primarily from southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky, as far north as Dayton to as far south as Edgewood, Kentucky.
Miami University students and selected high school students are also a part of the group. The remainder of SOSB’s 2019-2020 concert season has been cancelled due to concerns about the coronavirus.
