The Middletown native and 2016 World Series winner spoke to students amid cheers and the playing of the district’s fight song.
A public meet and greet with Schwarber will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Pendleton Arts Center.

Middletown will celebrate Kyle Schwarber and his contributions to the Chicago Cubs winning the 2016 World Series during a meet and greet Tuesday at Pendleton Arts Center, 1105 Central Ave.
Fans will be able to meet Schwarber from 4 to 6 p.m. on the second floor of the center. The line to meet Schwarber will cut off at 5:50 p.m., city officials said.
There will be a small presentation by city officials during the community event to honor Schwarber and his accomplishments.
Schwarber, 23, a 2011 Middletown High School graduate, severely injured his knee early in the season and wasn't supposed to be healthy enough to play. But he recovered quicker than expected and was added to the Cubs postseason roster before the World Series against the Cleveland Indians.
Used as a designated hitter, he collected seven hits in 17 at-bats for a .412 batting average. He also drove in two runs for the Cubs, who beat the Indians in the seven-game series.
