Middletown’s Kayla Harrison wins MMA title, $1M prize

Middletown’s Kayla Harrison rang in the new year with a Professional Fighters League title and the $1 million prize.

Harrison, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, won the PFL women’s lightweight championship on New Year’s Eve at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Harrison easily defeated Larissa Pacheco from Brazil in the championship fight that was televised on ESPN. Judges scored the fight 50-43, 50-45 and 50-45.

Harrison also defeated Pacheco in her opening fight of the 2019 PFL season.

The victory pushed Harrison’s pro MMA record to 7-0.

After the fight, Harrison was joined in the ring by former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson who presented her with her championship belt and her large $1 million check.
