Menards officials expect the Fairfield Twp. store, which will be called Hamilton Menards Mega Store, will open in early spring 2011. Radel said it will draw people.
“It’s like IKEA, it’s bringing interest to the region,” Radel said.
Menards is based in Eau Claire, Wisc. It started as a family owned business in 1960. It currently operates 255 home improvement stores in 12 states.
The closest Menards is in Richmond, Ind., and the closest Ohio stores are in Sidney and Tipp City.
Fairfield Twp. Administrator Mike Rahall compared the building of the more than 200,000-square-foot facility to Bridgewater Fall’s draw.
“They have a great track record,” Rahall said. “We’re looking for a great community partnership like we have with the other large businesses in the township.”
Menards spokesman Jeff Abbott said the progress is “right were we need to be” to open on time.
“The new Hamilton store will be built in our largest format with several great departments, a full-service lumberyard and beautiful garden center,” Abbott said.
Menards will anchor a shopping center dubbed Fountains of Fairfield Twp. on the southwest corner of Princeton and Gilmore roads.
There are nine outlots planned — five along Princeton Road, three along Gilmore Road and one along Ohio 129.
