Man found dead on train tracks in Middletown identified

Late yesterday, with the assistance of BCI, a positive identification of the man found dead on railroad tracks in Middletown was made, according to the Butler County Coroner's Office.

Gary McCracken, 55, was identified by the coroner’s office as the man found Nov. 16 on train tracks behind Vannest Avenue in Middletown, according to Martin Schneider, coroner’s office administrator; however, his cause and manner of death are still pending.

The Butler County Coroner's office is requesting assistance in locating McCracken’s family.

“All efforts (to locate family) thus far have produced no results,” Schneider told the Journal-News.

The coroner’s office does not have a known home address for McCracken, he said.

Anyone with information about McCracken or his family should contact the coroner's office at 513-785-5860.

An autopsy was performed on McCracken at the Butler County Morgue on Nov. 19, according to Schneider. Further investigation into the cause of his death is underway.
