Police officers and detectives and eventually a SWAT team responded to a domestic disturbance on Jan. 31 at an apartment complex on College Corner Pike, according to a police report.

Officers found a woman with a noticeable eye injury and her left pants leg torn. She told police a 50-year-old suspect was inside the apartment, along with another woman and that he had barricaded the door to prevent anyone going in or out. She said he had weapons inside with him.

An upstairs neighbor said she had helped the first woman out of the apartment and called police.

A lieutenant on the scene called out the SWAT team because of the potential hostage situation. Several attempts were made to contact the suspect inside the apartment but he refused to believe they were police. Eventually, the front door opened and the second woman appeared in the doorway. She was taken to a safe location to make a statement.

She told detectives she and the other woman had been in the apartment when the suspect came in and began fighting with the first woman. He allegedly told them if they called for help, he would kill them when he got out of jail.

He confirmed police were outside of the apartment and ignored commands from officers but went to a bedroom overlooking the parking lot to look at the police cruisers parked there.

While he was distracted by the police presence and facing the window, police entered the apartment and three of them took him down onto a bed and took him into custody. While that was happening, an object believed to be a gun was heard hitting the wall next to a window. After he was removed, they obtained permission to search the apartment and found knives and bb/pellet guns.

The suspect was taken to the Oxford Police Department for processing and charged with two counts of abduction, two counts of aggravated menacing and one count of assault. He was taken to the Butler County Jail.

A CD and DVD of the scene and victim photos were placed into property.
