>> First wrong-way driver detector corridor launches in Ohio on I-71
“Last night, our district administrators were notified of the tragic death of one of our Wildwood Elementary students, his mother, and grandmother due to a car crash,” Middletown City Schools said in a statement.
“Please keep the family in your thoughts. We appreciate the comfort already extended by our school community. Guidance counselors will be available for any students and staff needing assistance and support.”
The crash happened just before 10 p.m., when a semi truck going northbound traveled into the southbound lanes and struck the other vehicle head-on by mile post 48, said Moraine Police Sgt. Chris Selby.
According to the coroner’s office, the three people killed were from the passenger vehicle. The driver of the semi was taken to Kettering Medical Center in Kettering in unknown condition.
We’re working to learn what caused the semi to cross into southbound lanes.
Barrier cables were knocked down in the area, and drivers headed south were directed off the interstate at the Dryden Road exit until early Saturday morning.
