There have been a disproportionate number of water main breaks in this section of pipe since 2014, prompting Fairfield Public Utilities Director Adam Sackenheim to call the project one of the city’s most “critical” this year.
The majority of the work will be done at in the evening and overnight, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and it’s expected to be complete by late fall, according to the city.

Fairfield’s Public Works Department will assist with the project, and city engineer Ben Mann said that includes inspection and oversight of the construction.
This project comes a year after Duke Energy conducted utility work along the same stretch of road, and a year before Ohio 4 will be repaved.
Public Works officials say the plans and budget for the repaving project aren’t finalized, but could be between $3 million and $3.5 million. Road repaving along Ohio 4 in 2018 will go from Seward Road to north of the railroad overpass along the city’s northern border with Hamilton.
