The city’s garbage transfer station, which accepts large amounts of trash from city and non-city residents alike, will be closed for repairs on June 16. It will be open again to accept garbage the next day.

The transfer station, located at 1000 N. Third St., allows people to dump extra trash, such as tree trimmings, sofas and construction debris. It also is the place where trash collected by city crews is disposed of.

At the transfer station, the debris is dumped into a large rectangular area, where a powerful hudraulic ram then compresses it before the disposed material goes into a trailer and is transported to the Rumpke landfill in Colerain Township for disposal.

The repairs will be made to the hydraulic ram, said Rich Engle, Hamilton’s director of public works. Normally, the transfer station is open Monday through Saturday.

The transfer station’s office will be open for phone calls that day at 513-867-8661. Normal hours will resume on Saturday, June 17.
