Free classes at Lindner Center of HOPE focus on addictions, coping

Lindner Center of HOPE is offering a free Community Education Series in 2017 on topics related to addiction. The series will offer discussion of substance use disorders, behavioral addictions, treatment and strategies for coping for community members seeking information.

The first session is Tuesday, Jan. 18. Dr. Clifford Cabansag will present on “Addiction as a Chronic Disease and Medication Assisted Treatment” from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Each class in the series will be held at the Manor House, 7440 Mason-Montgomery Road in Mason, the third Wednesday of each month, except for May and December.

On May 7, Lindner Center of HOPE will offer their second Education Day, a half-day workshop about mental illness and addiction.

  • Feb. 15: Motivational Interviewing: How to engage in conversations that build motivation to change
  • March 15: Stress and Family Functioning
  • April 19: Understanding Addiction through The Addictive Brain — a view from the inside out
  • June 21: Co-occurring disorders: struggling with addiction and mental illness
  • July 19: Treating Substance Use Disorders (levels of care)
  • Aug. 16: Red Flags in Addiction Identification
  • Sept. 20: Behavioral Addictions: Understanding problem gambling, pornography, gaming and the Internet
  • Oct. 18: Help for Family/Friends of Persons Addicted to Alcohol/Drugs
  • Nov. 15: Information on Identifying and Treating
