“We worked very closely with Butler County General Health District to navigate and to implement best practices for protecting public health,” said Assistant City Manager Dan Wendt.

Wendt credited the Butler County General Health District for their assistance “as we adapt and maintain continuity of service.”
Over the weekend, city facilities and workspaces were used by the employee were disinfected by a company to reduce the threat of additional exposure. The city income tax, utility billing and permit offices remain open to the public, and many of the services are now available online through FairfieldOH.gov.
City employees who were in contact with the employee have been assigned to work from home to reduce the risk of further exposure to the public.
“The city of Fairfield did a great job of responding very quickly to this situation. They did everything they should have to prevent the spread of this disease,” said Butler County Health Commissioner Jennifer Bailer. “Those potentially exposed have been contacted and are in compliance with requirements. The citizens of Fairfield should feel confident about the actions the city took right away.”
Fairfield officials adopted healthy workplace practices since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, including providing masks to employees, staggering shifts, districting work zones, installing barriers, encouraging frequent hand washing and disinfecting of workspaces, and advising individuals to remain 6 feet apart.

Those with COVID-19 have reported a range of symptoms, and they have ranged from mild to severe. Symptoms may appear 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus, and symptoms may include:
• fever (of 100.4 degrees)
• cough
• shortness of breath
• muscle or body aches
• headache
• new loss of taste or smell
• sore throat
• congestion or runny nose
• nausea or vomiting
• diarrhea
