Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati announced Friday it is now taking applications for about 400 administrative, facilities and security jobs.
The casino plans to open spring of 2013 with about 1,700 full- and part-time employees. Hiring is being done in phases.
The casino’s hiring announcement came the same day the U.S. Labor Department released national employment figures for October. U.S. employers added 171,000 jobs in October, and hiring was stronger in August and September than first thought. The unemployment rate inched up to 7.9 percent from 7.8 percent in September.
Butler County’s unemployment rate for October will be released later this month, but in September it had dropped to 6.2 percent.
Butler and Warren county residents have a chance of getting casino jobs as casino operators have committed to hiring 90 percent of its work force from the Cincinnati metropolitan area.
The casino is now accepting applications for a variety of jobs in accounting, finance, facilities, slots, security, Total Awards and culinary, company officials said. The casino said it’s seeking about a dozen culinary leaders, including accomplished chefs, sous chefs and restaurant managers to operate the property’s in-house dining and banquet venues.
“Some newly-posted positions require previous experience, but for many roles, a strong desire to deliver superior customer service with a positive and upbeat attitude is the main quality we will be looking for,” Lisa Rexroat-Steele, the casino’s vice president of human resources, said in a statement. “Interested job candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as postings will be removed once the requisite number of applicants has been identified to move forward.”
Job seekers for these new openings are encouraged to apply sooner than later. Applications will be accepted for at least two weeks, but after that, job openings will be taken down one-by-one as the casino decides it has enough applications, said Jennifer Kulczycki, spokeswoman for casino owners Rock Gaming LLC.
“Once the job posting comes down, it probably won’t be re-posted,” she said.
Horseshoe Cincinnati will be about 100,000-square-feet with approximately 2,000 slot machines, 85 table games and a 31-table World Series of Poker room. There will be three outward facing restaurants, according to the company. A buffet restaurant, a quick-casual eatery, a VIP players lounge, a coffee shop and a feature bar will also be part of the casino.
On Thursday it was announced Jack Binion’s Steak would be one of the restaurants, joining previously announced Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville.
Horseshoe Cincinnati received 5,600 applications early this fall for about 750 available jobs for table game and poker dealers, and game supervisors, Kulczycki said. People can’t apply for these gaming jobs anymore. Those who made it to the next stage of the hiring process will start this month a dealer academy.
Recruiting for cooks, servers and other food and beverage positions will begin in December, casino officials said Friday.
New job descriptions are posted online at www.horseshoecincinnati.com. The casino gave these requirements:
• At least 21 years old at the time of application;
• A high school graduate, or possess a GED equivalent;
• Able to provide prior work history; resumes are not required but helps with screening;
• Flexible to work nights, weekends and holidays; and
• Willing to do all pre-employment requirements including a criminal background check, drug test and regulatory licensing requirements.
Construction for the $400 million casino is off Broadway Street in Cincinnati. The casino is owned and operated by Rock Ohio Caesars, a joint venture of Rock Gaming LLC and Caesars Entertainment Corp.
