Butler County holiday lights: Where to go for the best displays

Enjoy the holiday season by visiting some of the area’s light displays.

Light Up Middletown

Open through New Year’s Eve. With more than a million sparkling lights, themed displays and Santa, many area families continue to make Light Up Middletown a part of their annual holiday tradition.

Celebrating 20 years this season, Middletown’s popular drive-through light display offers themed displays, such as a floating Sea Serpent in the reflecting lake, Whales giving Santa’s Reindeer a ride, Santa’s Workshop, an American Flag, a Penguin Village and more. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available in the Santa House from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings through Dec. 21. (Photos with Santa are available by cash donation.)

Open nightly, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. through New Year’s Eve, including holidays and regardless of the weather. Admission by donation. Light Up Middletown is located at Smith Park, 500 Tytus Avenue in Middletown. More information at www.lightupmiddletown.org.

Lights on the Hill at Pyramid Hill

Open through Jan. 5. Brave Berlin, the creators of Lumenocity and BLINK Cincinnati, will have an innovative projection-mapped sculptural installation inside the pavilion as part of this year’s Holiday Lights on the Hill at Pyramid Hill. This 2.5-mile, drive-through display will offer guests a holiday light experience that brings art and nature together in the 300-acre sculpture park. The display has been updated with LED lighting. A few of the traditional features will include decorated ponds with swans, a skating pond with a sequence of skaters that light up and doves overhead.

Open daily including holidays. Hours are Monday through Thursday 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday through Sunday 6 to 10 p.m. Cost: Monday through Thursday is $20; Friday through Sunday is $25 (Per carload). Admission for Pyramid Hill members presenting a current membership card is $15 every day. Group rates available. Christmas Glow at Land of Illusion Adventure Park

At Land of Illusion Christmas Glow, experience the Christmas season from the coziness of the car. Celebrate the season at The Christmas Glow, a mile and a half of 3 million lights at the Christmas Around the World drive-thru experience, visit Santa at the Christmas Village Santa Workshop or just take in the lights of the 45-foot Christmas Tree as people warm themselves by the gas fire pits.

The season runs through Dec. 30. Hours are 6 to 10 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Land of Illusion is at 8762 Thomas Road. Tickets are available at www.landofillusion.com. Bring a canned good, people get $2 off park admission. The canned good will be donated to The Hope House Mission of Middletown.
