Butler County deputies searching for owner of abused dog

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the owner of a “severely emaciated” pit bull mix found in Hamilton this week.

Dog wardens were dispatched to the 400 block of Knightsbridge Drive on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. for a report of a skinny dog that was on the loose. The wardens met with the caller, who was keeping the dog on the scene by feeding it chips and cheese.

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said the brown, female pit bull mix was “severely emaciated” and wearing a human button up shirt tied around the collar with speaker cords. The wardens took the animal to the Humane Society, where a vet took over the dog’s care, and tried unsuccessfully to locate a microchip.

Anyone with information on the dog’s owner is asked to call the dog warden at 513-785-6542.

“This dog has been severely neglected and mistreated and if the owner is located, will be charged and held responsible to the highest level possible,” Jones said.
