Local hospitals among top 5 percent in U.S. for quality care

Sixteen Ohio hospitals and medical centers — including two in Butler County, one in Warren County and two in the Dayton area — have been recognized among the top 5 percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide nationwide for clinical excellence.

Healthgrades, an online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, today announced the 258 recipients of the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence. According to the Healthgrades evaluation, these hospitals are among the top five percent in the nation that deliver high quality care across at least 21 of 32 common inpatient conditions and procedures.

Among the award winners was Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, which received the award for a third straight year, and Good Samaritan Hospital and Miami Valley Hospital, which received it for a fourth consecutive year. All three are Premier Health Hospitals.

Also earning the recognition was Mercy Health-Fairfield Hospital and UC Health’s West Chester Hospital, which received the award for the second consecutive year.

The Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence recognizes hospitals for superior performance in providing care for conditions and procedures across multiple specialty lines and areas. While many hospitals have specific areas of expertise and high-quality outcomes in certain areas, these hospitals exhibit comprehensive high-quality care across several clinical areas.

Mike Maiberger, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Premier Health, said the health system’s employees, hospitals and Premier Health as a system go to great lengths to ensure patients receive quality care.

Tom Daskalakis, chief administrative officer and vice president for West Chester Hospital, said he wanted to thank every member of the hospital’s staff for their commitment to its culture of patient-centered care.
