Lang, Wyenandt to debate tonight

Ohio Rep. George Lang, R-West Chester Twp., and Democrat Kathy Wyenandt, of Liberty Twp., will make their cases for election as the pair debate this evening at Miami University’s VOA Learning Center.

The pair are competing for the 52nd Ohio House District, which includes all or parts of Fairfield Twp., Liberty Twp., West Chester Twp., Hamilton and Sharonville.

The debate, which is set for 7 p.m. today, is hosted by Miami University, the Journal-News and the West Chester-Liberty Chamber Alliance at Miami University’s VOA Learning Center, 7847 VOA Park Drive in West Chester Twp.

Democratic Statehouse candidate Kathy Wyenandt is challenging incumbent Rep. George Lang, R-West Chester Twp., for the 52nd Ohio House District seat in November.

Topics that will be addressed with the candidates will be jobs and the economy, business development, education, the opioid crisis and medicaid expansion. There will also be a chance for audience members to ask questions of the candidates.

Tuesday’s debate is the first of three in the Miami University Regionals/Journal-News civic debate series, which is a chance for voters to hear directly from candidates.

The second debate will feature the candidates for Butler County Commission and is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Miami Downtown Center in Hamilton. It will feature incumbent Commissioner Cindy Carpenter and former Middletown vice mayor Dora Bronston.

The third debate will feature Congressman Warren Davidson, R-Troy, and Vanessa Enoch, a West Chester Twp. Democrat, in a debate at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Miami Regionals Hamilton campus.
