Neither teacher sustained injury, Pratt said.
A “Butler County Sheriff Deputy responded and the student who struck our staff members was removed from school property. Discipline was immediately initiated for this type of behavior and charges will be filed,” Pratt said.
“On Monday afternoon around 2:30 p.m., two male students began shouting at each other in the Edgewood High School hallway. As the students approached each other, one of our female staff members took action to break up the confrontation. As she approached the students, she was stuck in the torso by one of the students. Another male staff member quickly arrived and intervened. He was knocked to the ground and was struck by the same student,” she said.
“Discipline was immediately initiated for this type of behavior and charges will be filed,” she said.
She praised the two teachers “who recognized the situation and took steps to diffuse the situation between our students. We are thankful they did not experience any serious injuries as a result of this situation. We want to reinforce that safety is our number one priority for our staff and students. Any type of threat, whether verbal or physical, will be taken seriously and acted upon.”
Edgewood employs Butler County Sheriff deputies as school resource officers in each of its schools.
School discipline procedures can differ among districts, but in general students involved in physical assaults and other serious infractions are immediately suspended pending an expulsion hearing.
