12 local districts that have used Ohio help to build $703M worth of new schools

Last week, the Journal-News investigated the state of school construction funding in Ohio after the Franklin school board was told it would take about six years longer than expected to get help for new schools.

A jump in school districts winning voter approval of local school funding projects last year combined with uncertainty surrounding future state funding from Ohio’s pending biennium budget, which must be approved by June 30, has forced a slowdown for the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, which aids local districts in building costs.

“It’s simply a matter of more demand than available funding,” said Rick Savors, spokesman for the OFCC.

In the past 20 years, 12 districts in the region have taken advantage of OFCC funds to help in school construction. Here’s the a look at which districts have used the funds:
