Legally blind man says friend tricked him, stole $1,000 from his account

A Middletown man, who is legally blind, told police a friend withdrew $1,000 from his bank account through two ATMs, according to a police report.

The man, who lives on Jewell Avenue, said a woman was helping him handle his finances and they went to an unknown Middletown bank. The woman asked for his ATM card, then later gave him a card back, but it wasn’t his bank card, according to a police report.

A few days later, the man was told by a bank employee that $600 was removed from his account at the CVS on Verity Parkway and $400 was removed from Walgreens, leaving him $100 in his account, according to a police report.
