Kroger has expanded from testing its online shopping service with select customers of its Liberty Twp. Marketplace location to making it available for all customers of the Butler County grocery, the company announced Wednesday.

Cincinnati-based The Kroger Co. began testing last year with employees an online ordering and in-store pick up service at the Yankee Road location. It's the first and so far only Kroger-branded store nationally to test the service.

Since then, the retailer invited through a direct mailer some customers who shop the Liberty Twp. store to try it, company officials said.

Now any customer can try it by going to www.kroger.com/onlineshopping.

“We are going to expand to other locations soon,” said Kroger spokeswoman Patty Leesemann in an email.

Kroger operates grocery stores, gas stations and convenience stores across a 34-state footprint. The food and drug retailer is Ohio’s third largest employer of 39,000 people, according to Ohio Development Services Agency.

Presently, Kroger employs nearly 400,000 full- and part-time employees ringing up grocery orders at 2,625 supermarkets and multi-department stores.
