He said this will be a hands-on learning experience, so the musicians will be showing off different instruments, what those instruments sound like, and how those individual sounds come together to create a piece of music. Audiences will also have a chance to meet the musicians.
“It’s seeing a real cello, a French horn, a double bass or a bassoon. These instruments are unusual. Sometimes, they look weird, or sound funny, but when they come together, they make magnificent music, and there’s a great history to learn about,” MacKenzie-Thurley said.
Before the start of the production, there will be a complimentary reception by Two Women in a Kitchen with kid-friendly appetizers and drinks that will be served in the Carruthers Signature Ballroom at 6:30 p.m.
Youth will also have a chance to go behind-the-scenes and interact with the actors, performers, and musicians. They’ll learn more about what it’s like to rehearse for a play or a musical. And there is a Q & A session after the show, so kids can ask questions, and find out what it takes to play an instrument and to be a musician for an orchestra.
