3 injured after teen leads highway patrol on pursuit in Middletown

A Sidney teenager was hospitalized early Wednesday morning after leading an Ohio Highway Patrol trooper on a chase along Interstate 75 into Middletown before crashing into another vehicle, according to the state patrol.

According to the patrol’s Lebanon post, a 2004 Toyota Camry that was reported as stolen by Sidney police was stopped about 2:08 a.m. near mile marker 36 in Franklin Twp. The driver pulled the vehicle over to the berm and stopped, but as the trooper approached, the driver fled.

The pursuit ended in Middletown after the vehicle crashed into a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox at Central Avenue and Bellemonte Street.

The driver of the Camry sustained serious injuries from the crash and was transported to Atrium Medical Center, where he was admitted, the patrol said.

The driver of the Equinox, Courtney M. Tanner, 33, of Lebanon, sustained serious injuries and was reported in stable condition at Atrium Medical Center. Her passenger, Anthony J. Hurrigan, 31, of Middletown, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to Atrium for treatment. He is expected to be released, the patrol said.

The 17-year-old suspect is believed to have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident, the patrol said.

Charges are pending andthe investigation is continuing, the patrol said.
