Bruce Hoffbauer is West Chester Twp.’s new assistant police chief.

He replaces Brian Rebholz who was named chief after serving six months as interim chief following the retirement of Chief Joel Herzog.

“I am beyond humble and appreciative. This is something I never thought would happen. It wasn’t in my plan,’’ Hoffbauer said after being sworn into office.

“I think we have a great team here to get going. This is going to open the door to other promotions inside the department. The men and women in this department make us (a) premiere (department).”

In his new role, Hoffbauer will earn $139,055 annually.

“You know Bruce, you’re a standout. Good success to you,’’ said Mark Welch, chairman of the trustees’ board. “We pray for you for wisdom so you can make wise decisions and for your safety.”

Ohio Rep. Jennifer Gross presented Hoffbauer with a certificate of commendation from legislators.

“You’ve demonstrated your selflessness to this community for years and other communities as well.”

Hoffbauer joined the West Chester Police Department as a captain four years ago. He retired from the Cincinnati Police Department as a lieutenant and relief commander in 2020 after 34 years of service.

The son of a police officer, Hoffbauer holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati and completed the Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers’ course.
