Here are the concerts coming to historic Sorg Opera House this spring

Middletown’s historic Sorg Opera House announced its current “mini-season” of spring concerts. The Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra’s “Dizzy Gillespie Centennial,” a big band bop tribute to Dizzy will be held at 8 p.m. April 7.

The Blue Birds Big Band plus G. Miles & the Hitmen, together on the same stage, trading funk, blues and old school R&B in a wood shedding contest will be 8 p.m. April 21.

The Blue Wisp Big Band’s “Duke Ellington Birthday Celebration/Benefit,” will be held at 7:30 p.m. April 28.

A rare solo concert with Steppenwolf’s John Kay singing some of his masterful songs, telling stories about those songs and sharing insights about his foundation work will be held at 8:30 p.m. May 5.

These concerts are booked but tickets are not yet on sale. The Dayton Jazz Orchestra on May 19, the Monday Night Jazz Orchestra on June 16, and Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers on June 23.

Sorg Opera House is at 63 S. Main St. Proceeds benefit the Sorg’s Renovation Fund.
