Stanfill wrote to parents that the student who allegedly wrote the message was quickly identified and arrested and faces discipline by Hamilton schools and possible court proceedings.
Here is the text of the letter sent to Garfield families:
“The Hamilton City School District places an emphasis on safety with students and staff on a daily basis. Communicating accurate information to you which may involve safety is important to us. We want to inform you of an incident that occurred at Garfield Middle School today.
“A student went into the boy’s restroom and wrote a threatening statement on the wall. The threat was reported by another student to a teacher who reported the incident to the administration.
“Thanks to the Hamilton City Police Department and the quick response by our staff, we were able to quickly identify the student responsible. Students who are involved in such behavior face severe disciplinary action through both the Discipline Code of Conduct of the Hamilton City School District and the Butler County Juvenile Court System. In this instance, an arrest has been made.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to ask for your assistance in stressing to your child that if they ‘see something, say something.’ This is not just a message; it is the responsibility that we all have as members of the Garfield School community. Please remind your child of the importance of reporting dangerous behavior and we will continue to do the same at school. Thank you for your continued supportof our efforts to keep everyone safe and secure.”
