Fresh gator meat, anyone? Jungle Jim’s offering alligator fillet

Area foodies looking to try something new can stop by a popular Butler County grocery this weekend for something decidely different.

Freshly caught alligator arrived this morning from Florida at Jungle Jim’s International Market in Fairfield, according to the store’s Facebook page.

The Butler County grocer’s newest arrival is more than 9 feet long, weighs nearly 400 pounds and will be filleted and available for purchase this weekend.

Alligator meat may be cooked in a variety of ways and many people enjoy it grilled or fried, according to Jungle Jim’s.

"We recommend our recipe for Alligator Appetizer, which combines sautéed aromatics like onion, celery, and herbs with tender chunks of gator meat," Jungle Jim's wrote in its Facebook post.

The alligator meat is not yet priced, but that information will be posted to Facebook once it is available. A second gator is heading to Jungle Jim’s Eastgate today, but may not be on display yet depending on when the truck arrived and if crew have had time to get it set up, according to the store.
