A local Boy Scout and Fairfield Twp. worked to honor a beloved former assistant fire chief.

A few weeks ago, Caleb Frank unveiled his Eagle Scout project — a bench he made in honor of the late Paul McKendry, who died in February 2009. McKendry was the township’s first full-time fire department employee, and worked for the township for 25 years.

“This is a fitting tribute to a man who was much loved and is much missed in Fairfield Twp.,” said Fairfield Twp. Trustee President Susan Berding. “Caleb’s commitment to this project is awesome and sets the standard for future bench dedications.”

McKendry also was the scout leader for Frank’s older brother, Lance Frank.

The bench dedication was Oct. 21.

“The township is very pleased with (and grateful for) this lovely bench,” Berding said.
