6 fire departments respond to large Butler County barn fire

UPDATED@2:45 p.m.: Firefighters have returned to their respective stations after battling a Butler County barn fire for 12 hours, said Wayne Twp. Fire Capt. Daniel Hoit.

He said the hay has been dispersed and it may smolder in the field for days. He said there is “no fear” of the hay re-igniting.

Hoit said no cause of the fire has been determined.

INITIAL REPORT

Six Butler County fire departments responded to a barn fire this morning on Somerville-Jacksonburg Road.

Wayne Twp. Fire Capt. Daniel Hoit said the fire was reported at 2 a.m. and two structures were heavily damaged. He said the animals escaped to a nearby pasture, and several pieces of farm equipment were damaged.

Firefighters remained on scene this morning trying to battle the hay that’s on fire. No cause of the fire has been determined, Hoit said.

There were no injuries to firefighters or animals, he said.

Besides Wayne Twp., firefighters from Madison Twp., Seven Mile, St. Clair Twp., West Elton and Millville responded.
