Dan MacDonald, Dollar General spokesman, said construction began in late February.
“I’m excited to tell you that Dollar General’s new store on South Dixie Highway in Middletown will have a soft opening in mid-June,” MacDonald said. “We look forward to hosting a grand opening celebration on July 1.

He said about six to 10 people will work there on a full- or part-time basis, depending on staffing needs. MacDonald said anyone interested can apply for available positions online at www.dollargeneral.com/careers.
With the new store under construction, MacDonald said there are no plans to close the store further south on South Dixie Highway near the Towne Mall Galleria.
“This is another new store,” he said.
According to city building permit records, the project is valued at $650,000.

The new site is in a C-3 Community Commercial Zoning District, which permits retail stores, and the Sawyer’s Mill development was planned for mixed-use with single family homes and a neighborhood commercial parcel, according to City Planner Ashley Combs.
MacDonald said when the company chooses store locations, meeting customer needs is the top priority. Dollar General Corp., based in Goodlettsville, Tenn. operates nearly 12,500 locations in 43 states.
“The company looks for places where we can offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice,” he said. “We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a three- to five mile-radius, or 10-minute drive. We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration.
Dollar General sells name-brand and private label merchandise such as health and beauty products, home cleaning supplies, housewares, stationery, seasonal items and basic clothing. We also sell an assortment of packaged foods, as well as some refrigerated foods and frozen foods.
Dollar General operates stores in Seven Mile, Trenton, Madison Twp., Carlisle, West Chester, and Franklin. It also operates a Dollar General Market in Mason.
