A Fairfield Twp. woman is accused of starting a house fire with two people in the home.

Fairfield Twp. police and fire are investigating the fire that they say started as an arson. First responders were dispatched at 6:07 p.m. Wednesday to the 6000 block of Morris Road.

April Caldwell, 41, of Morris Road, allegedly started the fire at her home and fled before officers and firefighters arrived on scene. Fairfield Twp. patrol officers found Caldwell walking along a nearby road and took her into custody.

She was charged with aggravated arson, a first-degree felony.

Police report two victims were inside the home and suffered smoke inhalation injuries, which are non-life-threatening, and were treated and released from a local hospital.

Fairfield Twp. police Sgt. Brandon McCroskey said arson investigators and detectives collected evidence and used a dog trained to detect accelerants.

Caldwell was booked into the Butler County Jail and appeared today in Butler County Area II Court.

This case remains under investigation.
