Portia, one of two emaciated dogs recovering at the Animal Friends Humane Society, is gaining weight, according to the Butler County dog warden.

“…Our sweet Portia girl is here with us and going to see the vet this morning and check how she is coming along….Thank you all for the donations you have been sending and dropping off Butler County truly is amazing,” Butler County Dog Warden Supervisor Kurt Merbs said this morning via Facebook.

Merbs said Portia, a boxer mix, has increased her weight from 20 pounds to 32 pounds while in their care.

The owner of two emaciated dogs was arraigned Monday on two counts of animal cruelty.

Brian Trauthwein, 42, of Franklin Street, the owner of the dogs — named Chloe and Portia — was arraigned Monday in Hamilton Municipal Court Monday, where Judge Dan Gattermeyer set bond at $7,500. He was arrested Friday night and charged with two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.

Trauthwein originally said he found the dogs, but further investigation indicated otherwise, according to detectives.

The two dogs are female and appear to be older. One of the two appears to be extremely malnourished. They were found Thursday in the 1000 Block of Franklin Street in Hamilton.
