The road has been reopened and one person was transported to Atrium Medical Center.

INITIAL REPORT @ 1:58 p.m.:

A major road in Middletown is shut down this afternoon after a vehicle crashed into a light pole, and Duke Energy has been called to shut off the power, according to police.

Middletown police officers have University Boulevard, near John XXIII School, closed in both directions. Duke Energy has been called to shut off the power, police Chief David Birk said.

He said the severity of the injuries is unknown.
