Butler Tech has a new location in mind for its drone school, this news outlet has learned.

Butler County Development Director David Fehr had been negotiating with Butler Tech to locate its drone program at the county’s Hogan Field.

But Butler Tech spokesman Michael Beauchat told the Journal-News this week that the school has shifted its focus to Hook Field in Middletown.

“We have been working with the economic development director (in Middletown) to use an existing building (at Hook Field) for some potential education classes,” he said. “So I think our focus is to see what we can develop in that space programatically.”

There is a vacant building at Hook Field where Butler Tech could build out an entire aviation program, according to Beauchat.

The county airport was offering the use of an office and a conference room for the drone program.
