Mz. Jade’s Soul Food is slated to open in early October at 3237 Yankee Road in Middletown in the building that formerly was home to Cottage Donut Shoppe.

The new restaurant’s motto is emblazoned under its name: “Flavored with God’s favor. Highly Seasoned with Love.”

“All of my stuff is authentic and it’s all homemade,” owner Naiyozcsia King, of Monroe, told the Journal-News.

King said she became known around Southwest Ohio for providing the catered food at large gatherings and celebratory events with people driving from as far away as Detroit and Cleveland to dine on her culinary creations.

She’s hoping Mz. Jade’s Soul Food will garner a following for its ox tails, collard greens, fresh fish and baked macaroni and cheese.

King, who moved to the area seven years ago from Detroit, said she chose to open a restaurant in Middletown because she’s developed “a love and a passion” for everything about the city.

“I have nine grandbabies down here and I just think something new like this for Middletown, bringing something Southern (here), would bring the love back to Middletown where people can just go and get some good meals.”

Mz. Jade’s Soul Food will start with a staff of approximately five people, King said. To apply for a job, email jadeblade1@icloud.com

Hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, noon to 9 p.m. Saturdays, and noon to 8 p.m. Sundays. A drive-thru window will stay open until 11 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
