The book said she became good friends with the four Ottinger sisters who lived in the neighborhood, Betty Ottinger Barnes, Clara Ottinger Boxwell, Mabel Ottinger Younger and Ruth Ottinger Vennefron. She also became close friends with Trenton historian, Edward Keefe.
The book reports that some Trenton residents remember seeing Day “sitting on the brick wall in front of Phillip’s Drugstore (later the Tobacco Connection) eating an ice cream…”
Day was a frequent visitor to Trenton until the deaths of her aunt and uncle, according to the book.
Day was born at 3475 Greenlawn Ave. in Evanston.
In her autobiography, “Doris Day: Her Own Story,” as told to A.E. Hotchner, Day said: “I could have happily lived my entire life in Cincinnati, married to a proper Cincinnatian, living in a big old Victorian house, raising a brood of offspring, but preordination … had other plans for me.”
