Hyde’s Restaurant, which has been open in Hamilton on Erie Boulevard for nearly 80 years, has finished some renovations and reopened Saturday after being closed in December.

The short closure caused rampant rumors in Hamilton as the diner has been a popular location for families for years and a source for its well-known homemade pies.

Amy Hyde-Klaiber said the general public won’t notice the latest renovation. However, she and her sister, Ashley Hyde-Tuley, are excited for the “behind the scenes” replacement of pipes.

“The men’s restroom does now have heat, a new addition since the men’s restroom was installed in the 1950s,” Hyde Klaiber said. “Our project was a huge undertaking for our business and our staff, but a necessity.”

In June 2019, Hyde’s was shut down for several days for an interior makeover, which include new flooring and ceiling, LED lighting and an interior paint job. Community Design Alliance and LemonGrenade Creative were apart of that renovation. LemonGrenade created new branding that included a logo inspired by a photo of the “pie man” that once graced high above Erie Boulevard outside the restaurant.

Hyde’s had been closed since the end of last year and reopened Saturday. The project was expected to be completed last week, but with the weather, it was delayed a couple of days, the owners said.

“Our contractors and staff did an amazing job getting us back to working order,” Hyde-Klaiber said.

Hyde-Klaiber and Hyde-Tuley are third-generation owners of the restaurant.

Hyde’s opened in 1946 at 130 S. Erie Blvd. when their grandfather Lloyd “Hub” Hyde and granduncle Jim Hyde transformed an ice cream shop into an iconic Hamilton establishment. They quickly became known for their homemade pies.

Hyde’s is closed on Mondays but opens the rest of the week at 7 a.m. The restaurant is open until 7 p.m. Tuesdays to Fridays, and 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
