The woman behind a new dog grooming business opening in Fairfield believes its central location was the best place for her to open.

Furry Tails Pet Grooming is scheduled to open this week at 5096 Pleasant Ave., just north of Pleasant Avenue and Nilles Road, close to the Lindewald Station restaurant.

A soft opening of the new 1,000-square-foot business is planned for Thursday, with a grand opening on Saturday. It replaces DP Fashion Store.

“I chose this location because it’s in the center of the local community, and we’re also excited for Fairfield’s new dog park, which is opening just a few min away,” said co-owner Alyssa Kelly, who brought aboard friend and former PetSmart co-worker Danielle Killinger for the grooming service’s brick-and-mortar launch.

Furry Tails, which also grooms cats, offers a full-service groom from between $35 and $65 with the price varying by size and breed. It includes a bath, hair cut, nail trim and ear cleaning.

A “bath and brush” option costs $25 to $35 and includes a bath, brush out, nail trim and ear cleaning.

Add on services include nail grinding, oatmeal shampoo, de-shedding treatment and teeth brushing. A special “Spaw” package including upgraded shampoo and conditioner nail grind and teeth brushing. All add ons can be added to any grooming package.

Furry Tails Pet Grooming will be one of the few salons in Butler County that also offers two self serve dog wash stations with water, shampoo, towels and dryer included, according to Kelly, who started off as a veterinary technician, then was a groomer for 10 years, three of them working from home by starting the business.

“I started with PetSmart as a dog bather and worked my way up to a salon manager,” she said. “I ended up leaving there to go work for local boarding facilities and grooming salons, and one day I just decided I’m going to do my own thing.”

Furry Tails Pet Grooming’s logo is Kelly’s pet Rottweiler, Rocky, who died in 2017 at 12 years old.

“I got him right when I turned 18 when I still lived in Washington state, where I’m originally from,” Kelly said. “I left home and he was my travel companion all over the country. We came here and found our new home about 10 years ago.”
