Dick’s Sporting Goods will no longer sell guns at 125 of its stores, growing on its previous decision to ban some types of firearms.

The store has struggled with declining sales since it stopped selling guns to anyone under 21 years old and pulled some assault-style firearms off all stores shelves after the Parkland, Fla., school shooting that resulted in 17 deaths.

The retailer has said it will stop selling guns and some hunting gear from 125 of its more than 700 stores, according to several media organizations that cited CEO Ed Stack’s comments in an earnings conference call. The 125 stores under-perform in the hunting category.

The space previously occupied by hunting gear and firearms will be replaces with higher-margin and faster-selling licensed sports gear and outdoor recreation equipment, Stack said.

For the year, same-store sales fell 3.1 percent, but the company expects the changes to result in between flat same-store sales and 2 percent comparable sales growth this year.

There are Dick's Sporting Goods stores at the Dayton Mall, Mall at Fairfield Commons, North Heights Plaza in Huber Heights and Liberty Center. A store in Springfield will close Saturday.
