A girl in a diaper, whom a caller estimated was about 1 year old, was spotted walking alone outside near 6th and Heaton streets in Hamilton around 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Sgt. Rich Burkhardt, spokesman for the Hamilton Police Department, said the girl left home through the back door while her parents were sleeping.

After the situation was reported, the child’s parents were easy to find because the father was outside looking for her, he said.

Butler County Children Services was called to the home to investigate. No charges have been filed and are unlikely, said Burkhardt. The mission of Children Services is to protect children by strengthening and preserving families.
