An officer on patrol at 3:26 a.m. Dec. 1 saw a man walking on East Sycamore Street carrying a bundled Christmas tree over his shoulder. He was stopped by the officer and admitted taking the tree from the Uptown tree lot without paying for it.
He was identified as a Miami University student, and agreed to cooperate.

The tree was still wrapped in cord because it had not yet been set out for sale.
The student was issued a summons for theft and the tree was returned to the tree lot. Another bundled tree was found across the street from where he was stopped by the officer and it was also recovered and returned.
