A 13-year-old Middletown boy charged with rape remains behind bars in the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center.

The boy and his father came into the police lobby at 3:45 a.m. Nov. 12, about two hours after the alleged incident. When the boy was questioned by police he said he thought his cousin was asleep when he put his hand down her pants and penetrated her vagina with his finger, according to the police report.

He also told police he squeezed her buttocks.

The alleged victim is 8, according to the police report. Police told the girl’s mother to take her to the hospital for examination, according to police.

The boy has entered the adult equivalent of a not guilty plea in juvenile court. He appeared Monday before Butler County Juvenile Court Judge Kathleen Romans, who set a second pretrial hearing for Dec. 7.

Romans ordered the boy to remain in juvenile detention until that December hearing.
