A Middletown jail inmate was charged with drug abuse/methamphetamine after he allegedly was seen distributing the drug to fellow inmates, according to police.

Police were called to the jail Jan. 25 and correction officers said they saw Daniel Johnson, 33, of Middletown, passing out a substance to multiple inmates. The drug exchange was video taped on a security camera while Johnson was in the jail day room while he was incarcerated for drug abuse/fentanyl, according to the report and court documents.

The video showed the substance being poured onto pages of an open book. The substance was field tested for methamphetamine, police said.

Visiting Middletown Municipal Court Judge Stephen Yarbrough said there was sufficient evidence and he bound the fifth-degree felony charge to a Butler County grand jury, according to records.
