Police: Man offered to help older woman with groceries before stealing from her trunk

A man helped an older woman load her groceries before stealing her purse out of her trunk, according to Middletown police.

The 86-year-old woman told police she was loading her groceries at Needler’s Market, 621 N. University Blvd., recently when a man offered to help. After assisting the woman, the man reached into her trunk and stole her purse that contained personal information and credit cards, according to a police report.

A canine officer from the Franklin Police Department was unable to locate the suspect, described as a white male with tattoos on his neck. Two people in the parking lot said they witnessed the unarmed robbery and they provided police a photo of the suspect.

The woman’s purse was later found by a walker, and it was returned to the police department. The credit cards were missing, the report read.
