Parole has been granted for a Butler County man who raped his toddler son in 1994.

Mark Sprague has a projected released date of Oct. 1, 2018, said a spokesperson for the Ohio Parole Board, according to WCPO, our media partner. Authorities will determine a halfway house for him closer to that date.

Sprague admitted to raping his 22-month-old son and convicted of rape and felonious sexual penetration in 1995. Butler County Common Pleas Judge Michael Sage sentenced Sprague to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years.

The boy’s mother, Della Sprague, hit the child causing a vein near his heart to rupture, and the child died, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. Della Sprague pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to a maximum of of 10 years in prison.

Della Sprague had been released from prison.

It was Mark Sprague’s second attempt to get parole.
