The crash happened after a trooper passed truck tire tread in the middle of the roadway. The trooper went into the emergency lane so he could stop to retrieve it. As the trooper was backing up, his cruiser went off the berm, which was a steep drop. The trooper jerked the cruiser back onto the pavement, when it went into traffic and a pickup struck the rear of the cruiser, according to the OSP.
