In complaints filed with DeWine’s office, consumers report paying the business between $1,350 to $13,000 to install, repair or replace their roof. After making the payment, consumers said the business either did no work at all or did a poor job.
“Consumers gave this business large down payments to repair or replace their roofs, but in turn, the business did substandard and shoddy work,” DeWine said. “In some cases, it did no work at all. Despite multiple attempts by my office, the business failed to resolve these issues out of court, leaving us no choice but to file this lawsuit.”
The suit, filed last week in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court, charges Salyers and his company with multiple violations of Ohio’s Consumer Sales Practices Act. It seeks consumer restitution, and civil penalties in the amount of $25,000 per violation and an order that would stop Salyers and all employees from operating the business.
The Better Business Bureau, which graded Salyers’ company with an “F” grade, lists 12 closed complaints against the less than 2-year-old business in the past 12 months.
Salyers could not be reached for comment Tuesday via three phone numbers associated with him, all of which had been disconnected.
In 2011, the attorney general’s Consumer Protection Section filed 29 lawsuits and obtained 40 judgements and out of court settlements, which totaled more than $7 million, according to spokesman Dan Tierney.
