The plea came just days away from his trial scheduled to begin Monday. He was indicted in 2016 on two charges of non-support and the second charge was dismissed. He remains free on his own recognizance.
The maximum sentence is 12 months in prison, but jail time is unlikely in the low level, non-violent offense.
“Accountability is what is important in this case,” Gmoser said.
After playing at the University of Cincinnati, Patterson played professionally for several NBA teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets.
Since retiring from the NBA, Patterson has maintained a presence at NBA games and events and resides in Las Vegas and Jacksonville, Fla., according to the prosecutor’s office.
