MORE: Butler County fatal shooting victim identified
A 17-year-old boy is also charged with obstructing justice and tampering with evidence, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
Brown, of South Second Street in Hamilton, was arraigned Wednesday in Hamilton Municipal Court, where bond was set at $75,000.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Tuesday. He remains housed in the Butler County Jail.
Both teens were arrested after Maurice Chatman was found shot to death outside a car in the 500 block of Warwick Road about 6:40 p.m. Monday.
Chatman’s death was ruled a homicide Wednesday by the Butler County Coroner’s Office after an autopsy. He died of gunshot wounds, according to the coroner’s report.
Chatman had multiple gunshot wounds, sheriff’s detectives also told the Journal-News.
Butler County Sheriff’s Lt. Rick Bucheit said the investigation is continuing into Chatman’s death, including evidence in the vehicle. Brown and the juvenile were with Chatman at the time of the shooting, he said.
The teens were held at gunpoint by a local resident who saw them acting suspicious.
WATCH: Man talks about holding teens at gunpoint
A man who saw the two teens “acting fishy” and running through his fields called 911 to report that he was holding them by gunpoint.
“Come and get both of them,” the man who lives on Brooks Road told the dispatcher. “Send an officer to get them. I got my 12-gauge pump on them. They are both lying here in my driveway. One doesn’t have any shoes on and they are acting stupid.”
A woman also called 911 from a nearby house on Martin Drive and said she heard gunshots. She told the dispatcher she saw two men running into the woods and another man lying on the side of the road.
Another 911 caller also described a dead person on the side of the road. Someone “just confirmed that he’s dead. Nobody touched anything,” the caller said.
